Windows 7 Ultimate (BETA)

Well, I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate (BETA) and I must say the installation experience was pretty smooth.  All in all, it really just looks like a cleaned up version of Vista.  I was a early adopter of Vista and in the beginning I really did suffer some of the challenges that most early adopters experienced.  For my experience, it seemed to always come down to drivers.  If drivers didn't exist or one tried to use the XP drivers there would be a price to pay when it came to stability.

For now, I'm perfectly happy recommending Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 to those with a powerful system with lots of memory.  So far, I've been able to get my game on pretty nicely in this environment.  Migrating to Vista 64-bit was something I did only recently with SP1 versions of Vista shipping so maybe I didn't quite experience the early adopter challenges in the 64-bit space like many others.

So far so good with one of my test boxes running Windows 7. One kind of neat side-effect of leaving the room for quite some time... I noticed the machine had kind of turned off.  I was a bit nervous as the systems power draw was a bit close to the capable load of the power supply.  Anyway, going back to the TV (yes, this is a system connected w/ HDMI to the LCD TV), I moved the mouse around and the system woke up in a few seconds.  I guess it's fully loaded with some good power management abilities.  Impressive.
